Tallahassee and Leon County are attracting a growing population. While growth can be sign of a healthy economy, it also puts pressure on transportation networks. Congestion, safety, and connectivity are increasingly important issues for this region. The region needs a transportation network that provides excellent accessibility for all travelers, balancing the needs of motorists with transit riders, bicyclists, and pedestrians.

To provide a complete network of resources for bicyclists and pedestrians, the Tallahassee-Leon County Metropolitan Planning Organization is preparing the community’s first comprehensive Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan (Master Plan). The Master Plan will address sidewalks, bicycle lanes, trails, and other facilities and programs for residents and visitors of all ages and abilities. The goal of the Master Plan is to promote a systematic approach to providing safer, more convenient, more attractive, and more extensive bicycle and pedestrian facilities.

"Simple facility building is insufficient at this point. We need to put into place a comprehensive, interconnected plan that interfaces with transit systems to meet the county’s increasing need for an alternative to more vehicle traffic."
